The Chiltern Firehouse has been illuminating London’s restaurant scene since opening in 2014. A much-anticipated collaboration between Harry Handelsman and celebrated hotelier André Balazs, this ambitious development transformed Marylebone’s derelict former fire station into the capital’s most talked-about restaurant, bar and hotel.
The Grade II listed building features a 100-cover restaurant, 26-room boutique hotel, stunning private courtyard and exclusive after-hours members club. Period features were actively incorporated in the development, retaining the unique heritage and charm of one of London’s oldest fire stations – from the original Victorian façade and triple-height ladder shed to the majestic engine house doors and even the fireman’s pole.
The interiors, by Parisian duo Studio KO, effortlessly evoke an old-word opulence and timeless glamour; simultaneously classic and contemporary. Operated by André Balazs, the man behind Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, the Chiltern is his first venture outside the US.
Upon finding the site in 2009, Harry and Andre’s plan was to ‘create something magical’. In just a few years, the Chiltern Firehouse has been the scene and subject of enough modern myth-making and glorious misbehavior to last a lifetime.
